Fez, the oldest imperial city in Morocco is classified as a UNESCO world heritage thanks to its many historical and architectural treasures. Throughout history, it has always been considered as the cultural capital of the country, and its medina, which in addition to being the largest in Morocco, is also the most authentic, with its earthen clay walls, its zellige ceramic fountains and its numerous mosaics. Tourists and local inhabitants come here for its souks, where one can find legendary Moroccan crafts including superb blue and white ceramics, pottery, leather goods and the popular slippers known as “babouches” in a wide range of colors. It’s also the opportunity to discover the typical gastronomy of the region, largely influenced by Andalusian traditions. One of the specialties is a lightly sweetened flaky pastry garnished with pigeon flesh and almonds and, and which goes by the name of pastilla. Finally, in the heart of the medina, we find some of Fez’s most beautiful monuments like Karouine University with its Arab-Andalusian architecture, the Bou Inania merdersa and its marble courtyard, or the zaouïa of Moulay Idriss, founder of the city.
The Riad Fès is at the entrance to the medina. It’s a jewel of Spanish-Moorish architecture, which will thrill visitors in search of authenticity. Ideal for re-energizing oneself in total serenity, the riad makes absolutely no compromises in the areas of quality, beauty and hospitality.
Guests are received in three refined patios, each one different from the others: the Moroccan patio in pure Moroccan style with zelliges, wood and chandeliers, the Andalusian patio and its basin, where the atmosphere is cool and calm, and finally, the Baroque patio, a blend of oriental and Baroque traditions. The rooms and the suites are elegantly decorated for the most part in a warm Moroccan style with beautiful carpeting, traditional wood furniture, precious fabrics and bathrooms in Carrare marble. Other rooms and suites are more pure and classical but equally warm. Some have private terraces.
The Royal Suite, the jewel of the riad, provides luxury and comfort in a veritable oriental palace and a superb 150-square-meter terrace.
The swimming pool, located in the garden and surrounded by fruit trees and delicate fragrances, is an invitation to pleasant relaxing moments, as is the Riad’s panoramic terrace, where guests can take in the sun while sipping a delicious mint tea. Massages and the hammam are also the order of the day since the opening, in 2011, of a Five Worlds Spa.
To make this fabulous stay at the Riad Fès complete, we have the gastronomic restaurant with its top quality Moroccan cuisine, which can be served in the salons, at poolside or on the terrace, with its unforgettable view of the medina and the Atlas mountain massif.
“Being a guest at the Riad Fès, means being invited into a décor and an atmosphere of a thousand and one Andalusian nights. It’s also a return to the past and the discovery of the authenticity and extravagance of the life of Fez’ dignitaries, whose homes were the mirror of their refined civilization and their prestigious past.” Chakir Sefrioui, Owner of the Riad Fès
