Caribbean Hotels

If any name immediately invokes adventure, it’s the Caribbean. This huge number of island states stretching primarily over the Caribbean Plate is divided into two parts: the Greater Antilles consisting of Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Haiti, Puerto Rico, the Cayman Islands and Jamaica and the Lesser Antilles which include the French islands of Guadeloupe, Martinique, Saint Barthélemy and Saint Martin, and the former British possessions of Anguilla, Grenada, Bermuda, and Turks & Caicos. Used by pirates to hide their loot in the 16^th and 17^th centuries and the site of a succession of colonial conquests, the Caribbean islands turned to tourism in the mid 20^th century and primarily luxury tourism, with the creation of superb hotels built at exceptional sites. The islands very quickly became a holiday destination for American celebrities and a vacation residence for British royalty as well as a source of inspiration for travelling writers, thanks to the region’s numerous legends about buried treasure and buccaneers. Some of these palatial residences have become legends themselves in the history of the hotel industry, and for good reason. Very few hotels can claim the advantages of a strong and rich past, deserted beaches, turquoise water, constantly changing landscapes, an excellent climate all year round, port infrastructures for sailing ships and yachts, and a constant flow of regularly scheduled flights between the islands and the mainland, all of which assure visitors of a totally dream like vacation.
