Jamaica

Cinema-tourism in Jamaica

The island of Jamaica with its sumptuous landscape bordered by coves and cliffs, enchanting beaches and purple sunsets is truly a dream destination. These clichés however, conceal a different, more surprising and passionate reality. There are places on the island where sometimes, fact and fiction come together. Luxury Dream Hotels has selected for you some Jamaican dream destinations with a strong accent on music and cinema.

Port-Antonio : sound tracks and a natural decor at the Geejam Hotel

The Geejam, owned by Chris Blackwell, founder of the Island Record label and responsible for the international renown of Bob Marley, as well as having produced records by, among others, U2 and the Cranberries. This remarkably discreet hotel was originally a recording studio used by singing stars including Alicia Keys, Björk and Amy Winehouse.

The Geejam’s past is very much alive in this tropical retreat since there is still a recording studio and each room is equipped with a digital surround system.

The surrounding nature has supplied the setting for film makers and the stars of their legendary pictures. The Blue Lagoon, where the film of the same name starring Brooke Shields is here, as is Reach Falls, the celebrated waterfall in the film, Cocktail with Tom Cruise as well as the beautiful Winnifred Beach with its long stretch of white sand and turquoise water which was the scene of the film, Club Paradise.

Saint-Mary : James Bond at the Goldeneye

Built around the house of Ian Fleming, author of the James Bond novels, we find the attractive Goldeneye. Created in 1956, it became a hotel 40 years later, and consists of a series of charming villas decorated with elegance and sobriety, offering guests a lovely view of the totally deserted coves.

Although all the male guests may not become lady killers like 007, they can nevertheless be assured of his favorite martini (shaken but not stirred), and the gleaming white sand. The refined accommodations include outdoor showers, surrounded by banana trees, fresh and spacious rooms with particularly comfortable sofas made of bamboo from Bali, and wooden windows opening onto the sea. The pure and discreetly luxurious Goldeneye is the ideal dream venue for serenity in an ambiance of harmony and relaxation.

Saint-Elizabeth : en mode star au Jake’s

Jake’s was the family house of the architect, Sally Henzel, set decorator of the legendary film, The Harder They Come, and her late husband, Perry Henzell. Today, the property belongs to Chris Blackwell. Under the leadership of its celebrated owners, the hotel has become the meeting place for the artistic elite seeking a refuge from the pressures of city life. Guests come here for total privacy and to feel far from everyone and everything. One might get a very fleeting glance of Kate Moss, Marianne Faithful or Robbie Williams. The décor is unpretentious and Bohemian. There are no telephones or TVs in the rooms, all of which have original names like Seahorse, Jellyfish or Sea Puss One. Each cottage has its own personality thanks to its details and its allure. These include chairs carved in old wood in one room, a Jamaican antique in another, etc. Nature however, is always present, in this eclectic hotel, full of innovative features and an atmosphere of nonchalance and improvisation.
