Namibia, a land of incomparable beauty is a country in southern Africa bordered on the west by the Atlantic Ocean and on the east by Botswana, Zimbabwe and Zambia. The land is particularly hostile notably because of the presence of the Namib Desert to the west and the Kalahari to the east. And yet, people have managed to settle here throughout the centuries, and today, a number of small scattered villages are worth discovering if only for the warm hospitality and the traditions of their inhabitants. However, the real wealth and attraction of the country is the variety of animal species that have chosen it as their home, and which tourists the world over come to see in their natural habitat. In the north of the country for example, we find the celebrated Etosha Nature Park, the first of its kind in Namibia and one of the largest in Africa. Tourists can go off in search of the local fauna either as part of an organized safari, or on their own, but always in a car, as excursions on foot are forbidden, since in addition to seeing zebras, giraffes and numerous migrating birds, there are also rhinos, leopards and of course the king of the jungle, the lion. Tourism is gradually developing but within limits in order to preserve the exceptional environment and the tranquility of the animals.
In Namibia, in southwestern Africa, the Little Ongava is a very different kind of hotel. Located in the heart of 30,000 hectares of the private Ongava reserve, near the Etosha Park, this hotel is an oasis of peace, somewhat lost in the bush. Here however, luxury is synonymous with being far from the outside world and spending one’s days in an exceptional setting where peace and quiet reign supreme, and the only sounds are those of migrating birds, giraffes and zebras who come to quench their thirst at one of the reserve’s ponds or lakes.
To preserve this wild site, Little Ongava only proposes three thatched roof villas, perched on a hill overlooking the landscape. Each villa offers a hundred square meters of comfort and charm, decorated with great simplicity including wood furniture, a choice of twin beds or a large double bed, a spacious bathroom with an indoor and an outdoor shower, a large pleasant living room with a beautiful fireplace and a fantastic terrace with a swimming pool and a breathtaking view over the horizon. Meals are served in the spacious dining room of the main building, which also houses the bar and a large salon.
Dinners on the terrace with the local fauna for company will provide guests with an unforgettable memory.
To discover the surrounding region, safaris in four-wheel drive vehicles are organized every morning in the Etosha Park, and at the end of the afternoon in the reserve, where it’s possible to go on foot in the company of a guide, who will share his knowledge of the local flora and fauna. The luckier visitors might come across some white or black rhinos, species that are becoming more and more rare and which the reserve is proud to host.
