Perched on a rocky promontory overlooking the Gulf of Saint Tropez, Gassin is a peaceful and authentic Provencal village. Surrounded by vineyards and woods, it offers visitors an exceptional panoramic view of the bay and the Maures massif.
It’s a pleasure to stroll through its narrow, winding streets, alleyways and arched passages and admire the picturesque old houses and the Notre Dame de l’Assomption church which is built like a fortress.
A stop on the way for a glass of rosé on the magnificent Deï Barri promenade is highly recommended. This beautiful terrace, which runs along the city’s medieval fortifications, is the site of numerous restaurants. And for a truly incredible view of the gulf, visitors can climb the montée Saint-Joseph.
The « Passage du Guet », the « Porte des Sarrazins », the « Rue du Fort », and the « Passage des Templiers » all bear witness to the region’s tumultuous past.
Classified as one of France’s most beautiful villages, Gassin is nevertheless a discreet site. Visitors come here to relax, far from the crowds and the hyperactivity of Saint Tropez, although if the desire for partying becomes too strong, the center of the action is only a few kilometers away.
A majestic villa
The Villa Belrose is an imposing residence on a 7000 square meter property of umbrella pines and landscaped gardens on the heights of Gassin. Its ideal location offers guests an exceptional and panoramic view of the village from its vast terraces. The hotel’s royal swimming pool possesses a 180 degree view of the Bay of Saint-Tropez below.
The Villa Belrose, a member of the very select Relais & Châteaux group, has been directed for the past ten years by Robert Van Straten, who welcomes his guests as if they were friends. This seems only natural since the villa looks more like a private residence than a hotel. This immense and elegant structure has constantly striven to improve throughout the years. Its 40 rooms and suites, opening onto huge private terraces, are regularly redecorated with all the luxury worthy of such a prestigious house. The décor is blend of Louis XV and Provencal styles, and all the rooms are vast and luminous, with a breathtaking view of the bay.
The bathrooms, all in Italian marble, reflect the luxury and spaciousness of the rooms. The Belrose is a true haven of peace and an ideal venue for being pampered. After a morning of sunbathing alongside the immense swimming pool and terrace, which like the rest of the hotel possesses an incredible view of the bay, it’s time to head for the beauty salon for a unique caviar treatment or a relaxing massage. Then it’s up to the terrace bar overlooking the roadstead and the swimming pool for a light lunch at the Petit Belrose. The Belrose itself is the ideal dinner spot. Directed by the Michelin Guide starred chef, Thierry Thiercelin, gastronomic cuisine is proposed with products grown on the villa’s one hectare vegetable garden and other regional specialties as well. After being comfortably seated on the exceptional terrace overlooking the Gulf of Saint Tropez, guests can enjoy the “prawns with tomatoes confites”, “marinated squash and fresh nuts” or the fabulous “foie gras and frogs’ legs”, followed by a fresh “sea bass with mushroom risotto” or a “turbot grilled in fennel.”
Facing the sea, guests are in an earthly paradise. Delightful and majestic with impeccable hospitality, the Villa Belrose is one of the most attractive destinations in the Saint Tropez region for a chic and discreet clientele.
