The Maldives
The 26 atolls of the Maldives archipelago form a string of almost 1,200 islands spread over 800 kilometers from north to south. The particularly pleasant all year round climate, with temperatures rarely below 26 degrees Celsius and the beauty of its landscapes have made this nation an extremely popular tourist destination.
The Ari atoll is the largest and northernmost in the archipelago. In spite of its 61 deserted islands, it is the most populated in the Maldives with no less than 18 inhabited islands and 25 island-hotels.
Very popular with deep sea divers, it possesses magnificent marine depths where innumerable fish frolic in the lush vegetation and the colorful coral. On certain reefs, it’s not uncommon to come across gray or whale sharks. Even seasoned divers will be amazed by these incredibly fascinating sights.
Ultra luxurious – Maldives style
On the Ari atoll, 20 minutes by seaplane from Malé Airport, we find the 500 meter long and 200 meter wide island paradise of Constance Halaveli. Totally representative of Maldives magnificence with its white sand beaches, its turquoise lagoon and its lush greenery, the island-hotel possesses 86 luxury villas. Located either on the beach or suspended on stilts above the water, each villa has its own terrace and swimming pool.
All of the extremely spacious, elegant and comfortable villas are sober in design with thatched roofs in the form of local Maldivian boats known as dhonis, and combine luxury with a traditional Maldivian atmosphere.
Giving the impression of sleeping under the hull of a ship, the bedroom, like the living room, is a large handsome open space. The marble bathrooms open onto the outside, and the bathtub faces the sea. A rainwater shower is located on the terrace.
The height of luxury however, is the service. The staff ispresent at every moment to satisfy the guests’ every need and to leave thoughtful objects in the rooms, like bamboo leaves on the bed that spell out “welcome” on the day of arrival. The overriding philosophy of the Halaveli can be summed up in the phrase, “as if you were at home.”
The 700 square meter Presidential Suite is a rare jewel of luxury. With its superb roof in the form of a dhoni, the traditional Maldivian boat, it resembles a colonial villa.
Inside, the parquet floors, the made to measure dark wood furniture and the filtered lighting of the designer lamps create a serene feeling of well-being.
Guests spend their time in this luxury resort sailing in a dhoni, equipped with a shower and a sunbathing space, a dip in the Indian Ocean, relaxing around the swimming pool or taking advantage of the treatments proposed by the spa.
Built with high quality refined wood, the spa is considered to be one of the best in the Indian Ocean region.
A warm bath facing the lagoon is the ultimate reward after a long massage with essential oils.
In the category of gastronomy, the Halaveli is definitely the « place to be. » Its three restaurants, all in idyllic settings, propose dishes from all over the world. The Jahaz, decorated with wood that creates a warm ambiance, faces the beach and is ideal for lunch. For enjoying the sunset, there’s the Jing, on the terrace above the water, and finally, the Meeru Grill, on the beach, livens up at nightfall. Totally lit by candles, guests can dine along the water, under the stars, with their feet in the still warm sand.
