By its immensity, its incredible flora and fauna and its multi-cultural population, Brazil is almost a continent in itself. Brazil is synonymous with the Amazon forest, the world’s vital oxygen supplier, Pantanal, the last refuge of the rare jaguar, the Iguacu waterfall and Rio’s Corcovado Mountain. In addition, the country has a rich and colorful history as reflected by its mixed population. Salvador de Bahia, for example, Brazil’s first capital, possesses a wealth of preserved colonial architecture.
One immediately thinks of Rio de Janeiro, located in one of the world’s most beautiful bays, dominated by Sugarloaf Mountain and the statue of Christ the Redeemer, its legendary Copacabana and Ipanema beaches. Brazil’s carnivals are legendary especially those of Rio and Salvador de Bahia. Equally legendary are the samba, the bossa nova and the capoeira.
Lesser known to the general public is Alagoas, a small Brazilian state, and yet its capital, Maceio, its small fishing villages along the coast, bordered by palm trees and its fine sand beaches like the famous Barra de Sao Miguel, are well worth a visit.
Nestled in between the sea and the mountains, along one of Brazil’s most beautiful white sand beaches, Barra de Sao Miguel, the hotel Kenoa Exclusive Beach Spa & Resort is an ecological and luxurious lost paradise. Stone and wood villas crowned by thatched roofs, established in a very modern architectural line, blend in perfectly with the natural décor.
Created by architect Osvaldo Tenorio, this eco-chic hotel, entirely made with local wood, is the embodiment of a design architecture as close to the environment as possible. To do so, the architect opted for the exclusive use of raw materials to create small buildings of stone, wood and concrete with traditional thatched roofs. The central building is designed with vertical tree trunks from the floor to the roof.
In this decor with its contemporary lines, linen and cotton fabrics and rustic furniture made with recovered wood blend harmoniously with the raw concrete and the latest technology.
We find the same ultra design décor punctuated with ethnic elements in the suites and the villas. The vast volumes contain wooden floors, concrete or stone walls, clear colors and huge bay windows.
The bathrooms are also made with the same raw materials including stone sinks, wood surfaces and traditional Japanese Ofuro cedar bathtubs. Elegant and spacious, they open onto the either the ocean or the surrounding nature. Some of them lead directly to the beach.
In this zen like paradise, guests can spend hours contemplating the turquoise ocean or relaxing alongside one of the two Bali stone swimming pools, and if there is any remaining stress, one of the many treatments on the menu offered by the spa is highly recommended.
Another enticing menu is available at the Kaamo restaurant, where Chef Cesar Santos proposes a variety of Portuguese specialties. In this luxurious resort with incomparable service, guests have the time to return to nature, or simply take the time to “take their time.”
In addition to being a luxury resort, the Kenoa is also an ecological hotel with solar panels, LED light lighting and recycled paper. Each area of the resort has its own floral composition.
