Lake Naivasha, about 80 kilometers from Nairobi, the capital of Kenya, is a truly extraordinary site. This immense stretch of fresh water is part of the famous Grand Rift Valley which possesses an impressive amount of power, and which is classified as a national park. Bird lovers will be particularly delighted by the lore than 400 existing species. The hippos are also very happy here since they can cool themselves off in the water with no fear since this region is now protected and hunting forbidden. Several excursions are offered, one of the most impressive and the most memorable being to fly over the lake and its surroundings in a helicopter and admire the frolicking zebras, antelope and buffalo. Touring on horseback is another option for enjoying the beauty of the scenery and feeling in complete harmony with nature.
What an extraordinary privilege it is to be on vacation at the Villa Hippo Point in the heart of a protected natural site, just a few meters from Lake Naivasha. The hotel is a true haven of peace, ideal for anyone looking for a moment of calm in the heart of nature. Dodo Cunningham, the owner, and his staff welcome you into this warm family environment.
You can stay in the Tudor Manor, built in the early 1920s, which possesses eight very cozy rooms, combining British and African charm, with a view of the English garden, or you can choose one of the five rooms in the famous Dodo Tower, built by the owner, and which resembles a wooden pagoda, overlooking the lake and the breathtaking landscape.
Waking up in the morning, opening your curtains and seeing zebras and giraffes strolling through the reserve and pink flamingos flying overhead is a truly unforgettable experience. The Tower is also ideal for families thanks to the equipped kitchen, as well as a reading room and a terrace. A visit to the volcanic rock swimming pool in the shade of the nearby acacias is perfect for cooling off as you observe the numerous animals living around the hotel, especially the monkeys who love human company.
The hotel’s Chef prepares well-balanced, delicious meals from morning to night, served in your room or around the pool for lunch. Dinners can be enjoyed outdoors for a thoroughly romantic evening.
“Everyone thought I as completely crazy, but I wanted to create something which highlighted nature and which would be there for posterity.” Dodo Cunningham - owner of the Villa Hippo Point, referring to the Dodo’s Tour
