Located off the Spanish coast, the Balearic Islands lie in the heart of the Mediterranean Sea. Consisting of five main islands and some smaller ones, the Baleares are especially famous and popular for their vast and fine sand beaches.
The archipelago however, is also a dream destination for nature lovers. Its majestic cliffs plunging into the blue Mediterranean, its olive groves and vineyards offer visitors a variety of magnificent landscapes. The charm of the these islands also lies in their coves and creeks, only accessible from the sea, and in the narrow winding streets of its numerous small villages.
As the birthplace of Talayotic culture, Mallorca and Menorca possess the remains of small ancient stoneconstructions known as talayots. The city of Puigpunyent, in Mallorca, inhabited since thousands of years, is surrounded by numerous prehistoric sites as well as Roman ruins. Located on the eastern slope of the Serra de Tramuntana mountain range, Puigpunyent, a UNESCO world heritage site, offers visitors an oasis of calm and nature in the heart of one the world’s most festive islands.
At the foot of the Serra de Tramuntana cordillera, a vast citrus fruit orchard is the setting for the luxurious Gran Hotel Son Net. The oldstone building was built in the purest Mallorcan style, as witnessed by its patio, thick walls and wide arched passages where horse drawn carriages once rode through.
The building was totally restored while preserving its past charm. Classic but contemporary furniture and the latest equipment were added to provide a modern and comfortable atmosphere to this structure steeped in history.
Opened to the public in 1998, the 31 rooms of the Gran Hotel Son Net are each named after an historical aspect of the island.
Typically Mallorcan fabrics in olive green, beige and scarlet tones were chosen to decorate the rooms, and especially the magnificent canopy beds in the center. In the more luxurious rooms, noble materials including green Indian marble and Venetian stucco were used for the bathroom walls.
Some rooms have private access to a vast swimming pool, while others have their own private jacuzzi. In the lush garden surrounding the hotel, there is a large 30 meters long outdoor pool. The Gran Hotel Son Net’s spa proposes massage sessions and therapeutic treatments in an exceptional setting with a view of the Serra de Tramuntana.
In the hotel’s Oleum restaurant, standard tables replaced the immense press once used to produce olive oil. The traditional food served is in perfect harmony with the setting and prolongs the Mediterranean experience. To accompany meals, the sommelier will propose a selection of little known but excellent Mallorcan wines.
With its 100 olive trees, the hotel is envisaging the production of its own olive oil. True to its roots and its history, the Gran Hotel Son Net offers its guests a unique experience between past and present, in total symbiosis with the idyllic setting of this Spanish island.
Formerly the residence of the Net family, the name of the hotel signifies, « The Nets’ home ». Certain parts of this bourgeois manor date back to 1672.
