By its immensity, Brazil is almost a continent of its own. There’s much more to the country than the majestic bay of Rio and the Amazonian forest. Located on the Cacao Coast, in the state of Bahia, the village of Itacaré, is typical of the rest of the country in that it is multi-faceted and multicultural. Originally an Indian village, it was invaded by Portuguese colonizers who built their church here and a great many charming and colorful houses.

A few centuries later, its port became one of the primary sites for the production of cacao, although after the 1970s, when the plantations were decimated by disease, the region turned towards tourism.

A return to Paradise

The Txai, afew kilometers from Itacaré, between the legendary Mata Atlantica and the ocean, is a luxurious and ecological resort. Located along the immaculately white sand beach, the main building contains the suites facing the water. A bit further back, spread through a coconut grove, 40 wooden bungalows with magnificent terraces, offer guests an incomparable view.

At the Txai, one can also take advantage of the 4 swimming pools, one of which is Olympic size, or allow themselves to be pampered in the spa with an exceptional view of the ocean.

Meals include local shellfish, Bahian specialties and international dishes for the less adventurous served in the resort’s two restaurants, in the shade of the park’s coconut palms, with a view of the beach. It’s also an ideal spot to enjoy the sunset over the ocean as you sip a cocktail.
