State of Bahia – Itacaré
By its immensity, Brazil is almost a continent of its own. There’s much more to the country than the majestic bay of Rio and the Amazonian forest. In this vast land with its incredible nature, the state of Bahia is famous for its beautiful beaches and its charming small islands. The long stretches of white sand and the blue of the ocean form magnificent sites bordered by small colonial style cities and traditional fishing villages.
Located on the Cacao Coast, in the state of Bahia, the village of Itacaré, is typical of the rest of the country in that it is multi-faceted and multicultural. Originally an Indian village, it was invaded by Portuguese colonizers who built their church here and a great many charming and colorful houses.
A few centuries later, its port became one of the primary sites for the production of cacao, although after the 1970s, when the plantations were decimated by disease, the region turned towards tourism.
As a paradise for surfers, nature lovers and capoeira fans, Itacaré has nevertheless preserved its past charm and its surrounding nature. The region’s immense virgin beaches, lush forests, rivers and mangroves make it one of theworld’s unique sites.
The Txai, afew kilometers from Itacaré, between the legendary Mata Atlantica and the ocean, is a luxurious and ecological resort. Located along the immaculately white sand beach, the main building contains the suites facing the water. A bit further back, spread through a coconut grove, 40 wooden bungalows with magnificent terraces, offer guests an incomparable view.
Noble materials, natural colors and braided palm roofs blend in perfectly with their environment and combine the height of luxury with simplicity.
The rooms are furnished in a pure style associating modern comfort with a non- ostentatious natural chic. The large beds with mosquito nets, the incredible views from the huge bay windows, the outdoor showers and the private pools offer guests luxury without opulence. Splendor here consists of the sense of freedom guests feel in the midst of this wild, unspoiled coast. And to be totally true to the resort’s philosophy, there are no television sets in the rooms.
Guests spend their time in this earthly paradise relaxing on the hot beach sand with occasional refreshing dips in the crystalline water of the lagoon, in the midst of multi-colored fish. If however, you crave exercise, surfing, rafting and canoeing are available on the Tijuipe River.
At the Txai, one can also take advantage of the 4 swimming pools, one of which is Olympic size, or allow themselves to be pampered in the spa with an exceptional view of the ocean.
Meals include local shellfish, Bahian specialties and international dishes for the less adventurous served in the resort’s two restaurants, in the shade of the park’s coconut palms, with a view of the beach. It’s also an ideal spot to enjoy the sunset over the ocean as you sip a cocktail.
Famous for its authenticity and its charm, the hotel is truly one of the most beautiful in Brazil.
Villa 39 is often chosen by celebrities and heads of state. Former French president Nicolas Sarkozy and his wife Carla Bruni stayed there during their trip to Brazil.
