There are very few cities with a personality as strong as Barcelona. Preferred by many to Madrid, the capital of Catalonia is at the crossroads of the sea, the mountains and the city. Thanks to its Mediterranean climate, its vast beaches and spectacular seafront, Barcelona benefits from the sea breezes and salt air all year long. To admire the beauty of the city, there’s nothing like strolling on Tibidado or Montjüic Mountains and enjoying the breathtaking views. Barcelona however, has many other treasures. As the world capital of Art Nouveau, hundreds of such creations are visible in the Eixample quarter. The spectacular Sagrada Familia Cathedral and Güell Park by the pioneer architect, Antoni Gaudi are integral aspects of the city, with their “imaginary lands” areas.
The aesthetic experience continues in the Barri Gotic quarter with its cobblestone streets and its magnificent Gothic monuments. Onesimply has to cross the legendary heart of the city, the Ramblas, to reach the typically Mediterranean old city. From the retro charm of the old port to the luxury boutiques of the Passeig de Gracia, Barcelona never ceases to surprise visitors. As diverse as it is modern, the city has a thousand different faces in its numerous neighborhoods, which is probably why the days seem to never end and the nights are eternal.
The sleek and futuristic Hesperia Tower is one of Barcelona’s most surprising hotels. The work of Spanish architects Alonso and Balaguer, this 107 meter high tower has 280 luxurious rooms. The glass and metal hotel is striking thanks to its light and its ambiance. The glass roof of the atrium was designed to be as transparent as possible. The hotel represents a veritable technical challenge with the staircases, elevators and different conduits placed on the exterior of the building. At the entrance, the vast bar of the lobby creates an impression of space and luminosity in spite of the black floor. The rooms are decorated in warm red, maroon and violet tones in order to create a filtered and peaceful atmosphere. Thanks to the contemporary and classic furniture and the impeccable service, the Hesperia Tower’s rooms offer guests everything they would expect from a luxurious five star hotel.
At twilight, the lights of the city mark the beginning of night. The 128 square meter Presidential Suite on the 26th floor has a private terrace with a magnificent view of Barcelona. The rooftop terrace, accessible to all guests, faces the Collserola and Tibidabo Mountains. A strangeflying saucer structure welcomes the most demanding gourmets. It’s called the Evo restaurant. Chef Ismael Alegria proposes the gastronomic menu that earned him a star in the Michelin guide. The Hesperia Tower is the only restaurant in Barcelona to offer delicious food in a futuristic décor with a panoramic view of the city.
In their desire to integrate this immense tower into its environment, the architects created a thick cushion of greenery forming a protective park around the hotel. For moments of relaxation, there’s a spa, a fitness room, an indoor swimming pool and a sauna. Light years away from the traditional standards of luxury, the Hesperia Tower is a modern and original site, leaving guests who discover it with a unique and unforgettable souvenir.
Opened in 2006, the Hesperia Tower was created with the help of the celebrated British architect, Richard Rogers, who built, among others, the Pompidou Center in Paris, and the similarities between the two structures are fairly obvious.
