In the north of the Malaysian peninsula, there’s an archipelago with about a hundred islands, the largest of which and the most attractive to tourists the world over is Langkawi. This island is one of the jewels of Malaysia, thanks to its breathtaking natural landscapes. The tropical forest, which covers an important part of the island, is one of the oldest in the world and contains a highly diversified plant life, to the delight of nature lovers. It’s a pleasure to stroll through it and observe the different bird species living here. Some hotels even offer visits to the jungle in the company of a guide who will reveal all the mysteries of this incredible space. The site is also known for its ancient geological remains including a number of grottos as well as a great many fossils, which have earned it the title of a UNESCO world heritage, making Langkawi the first geo-park in Asia. The Andaman Sea borders the island and has its own delights as well. Its transparent, turquoise water is an invitation to go snorkeling and discover the superb multi-colored coral reefs nearby. It’s also important to note that Langkawi is a duty free zone, which enables visitors to take advantage of their stay here to do some tax free shopping and leave with arms full of chocolates and perfumes, among other items.

Discovering the tropical forest

The Andaman Hotel is nestled in the heart of the Malaysian tropical forest, facing the turquoise waters of the Andaman Sea. The views therefore from the hotel’s 186 rooms are worthy of the most idyllic picture postcard. The interior of the rooms are also lovely, with a simple and elegant décor. The pure lines of the furniture are contemporary in style, and the colors chosen for the cushions, curtains and walls are all in perfect harmony. The highly discreet and obliging staff is available to satisfy even the slightest requests of their guests and to advise them about excursions to the sites they should visit during their stay. The hotel’s private beach is a piece of earthly paradise, and an especially designated attendant is on hand to serve drinks and distribute towels upon simple demand. The swimming pool, a few meters from the beach, looks like a small, shaded lagoon thanks to the numerous tropical trees surrounding it. The spa, reserved for hotel guests, is spread over five buildings, each more luxurious than the other. One of the many possibilities is a combined body and foot massage, a total body scrub and treatment during 200 delightful minutes! The complex’s different restaurants offer a wide choice of dishes in the Japanese restaurant or the appropriately named “Restaurant” which offers an international cuisine. The Terrace Barbecue is an ideal spot for lunch. For the more romantic guests, a cocktail at the Beach Bar while enjoying a magnificent sunset is strongly advised.
