Located 30 kilometers southwest of the Indian capital, Gurgaon is a relatively young and little known Indian city. Once a simple suburban town, it experienced extensive growth in the1970s when one of the country’s most important companies decided to establish itself here.
The city’s greatest period of growth however, took place during the 1990s, when the Indian economic miracle began. Ever since, 500 of the country’s most important Indian and foreign companies have set up shop here, transforming Gurgaon into an economic hub. The city now boasts the highest per capita income and the greatest concentration of shopping malls in the country.
Over a very short space of time, Gurgaon has become the place to be for all self-respecting businesses. It’s here that the majority of financial transactions take place. Whereas Mumbai is the economic heart of the country, Gurgaon has become India’s officlal business center. Skyscrapers continue to appear as quickly as the population increases, to the point that it now contains almost a million inhabitants.
A luxurious and design oasis
The difficulty of finding a quiet, restful spot in the hyperactivity of Gurgaon, was the motivation behind the atmosphere that guests discover as soon as they enter the Oberoi Gurgaon.
Hidden behind a setting of greenery, the hotel is a square shaped building with large bay windows and chromed metal gleaming in the sun. The hotel’s chic and design appearance sets it apart from the other, less daring building facades. And of course, there is deep blue water reflecting in front of the main building and a vegetal wall that defines the image of a contemporary, luxurious and welcoming hotel.
The reception area, surprisingly enough is upstairs, on the 5th floor, where a warm welcome awaits guests in an all red, chrome and transparent lobby. It’s a magnificent site whose center of gravity is a chandelier above a bouquet of red roses of incredible proportions. There is also very chic bar with its own “cigar room”. The interior of the hotel is sober and very elegant without being too ostentatious. In short, the luxury here is perfectly adapted to the clientele which includes tourists as well as businessmen.
In the same building, we find the hotel’s 2 restaurants, one of which is gastronomic and specializes in sea food, and an impressive shopping gallery.
The hotel’s 202 rooms and suites are in the adjacent building. Some of them have their own swimming pool and a panoramic view of this young and exciting city. Designed in a fairly simple manner, the décor is chic, sober andtotally adapted to the site, with generous spaces, especially the very large bathrooms.
The hotel’s swimming pool is a veritable discovery. It measures 25 meters and possesses the same deep blue reflections as the hotel’s façade. The Oberoi is truly a unique site in Gurgaon!
