As soon as you set foot in Marrakesh, you feel the excitement of this bustling city. Wherever you are, it’s impossible to be bored as there are so many things to discover. The old city for example, commonly called the medina, provides visitors with a total change of scene from that which they’re accustomed to. The famous souks are filled with local craftsmen who are guardians of traditional techniques in the crafting of leather, woven rugs and carpets, wood and precious metal to mention just a few. The Jemaa El Fna square is an ideal place to discover the folklore of the city, with its snake charmers, storytellers and small, improvised but authentic restaurants.
Numerous sites bear witness to the history of Marrakesh and the different influences it has been subject to. The medersa Ben Youssef for example, was a Koranic school, which received several hundred students a year. Not far from there, the Marrakesh museum traces eight centuries of craftsmanship, famous and recognized throughout the country. The Dar Si Said museum is also worth a visit for those seeking a better understanding of the traditions and way life of the inhabitants of this warm and hospitable city.
Located in the medina, in the Bab Doukkala quarter, the Riad Kniza is, as its name kniza in Arabic implies, a little treasure, which provides luxury and authenticity to those who want to discover Marrakesh under ideal conditions. It was entirely renovated by its owners, the Bouskri family, and today, possesses a décor worthy of the most beautiful of Moorish palaces. The most talented local craftsmen were called in to create a truly exceptional site, and they totally succeeded.
The riad’s eleven rooms and suites are each small pearls which contribute to its sense of evasion and well being. Located on the ground floor or the first floor, they all have warm and refined decorations which make the guest feel at home very quickly. Some have a living room and most of them a magnificent open fireplace. The Moroccan atmosphere can also be found in the riad’s other rooms. The salons are elegant and the outdoor courtyards contain fountains with flower petals scattered on the surface of their pools. The riad’s restaurant proposes a typically Moroccan cuisine served either in one of the salons for a filtered, romantic atmosphere or on the indoor terrace to take advantage of the panoramic view of the old city and the Atlas Mountains.
The indoor swimming pool provides moments of intense relaxation, as does the spa, thanks to its gentle ambience, its relaxed lighting, its enchanting fragrances and the treatments and massages offered. The riad’s staff is particularly attentive and discreet, and happy to help you in choosing your activities and visits.
This luxurious riad has received a number of celebrities including Bill Gates, and rumor has it that the owner himself was one of the private guides for a certain Brad Pitt.
