Although “the pearl of the south”, as Marrakesh is often called, originated in the 11th century, it was under the Almoravides that the city developed and gradually became an important crossroads of the Muslim world. The accumulated wealth was used to further embellish its beauty. The architecture of some of Marrakesh’s monuments were inspired by the Andalusian style, one of the primary examples being the Koutoubia mosque and its celebrated minaret, which served as a model for the no less famous Giralda in Seville.
Many palaces were also built but destroyed over the centuries, most notably the Bahia Palace. Tourists coming to Marrakesh can also discover the city’s souks and their craftsmen displaying their leather, clay and iron objects. Crafts and tourism are now the principal resources of the city, which every year, exports products in the pure Moroccan tradition such as carpets and wrought iron furniture. Marrakesh has become a favorite spot for visitors the world over including a great many celebrities, giving rise to the creation of numerous hotels, and especially in the renowned Palmeraie area where the atmosphere is as calm as it is carefree.
Palais Dar Ambre, one of the Marrakesh’s most beautiful hotels, is located in the city’s magnificent Palmeraie. Nestled inside a hectare of lush vegetation with divine fragrances, this five star hotel guarantees visitors total discretion, and the highest quality service in a luxurious environment. The 17 different accommodations rival each other for charm and beauty. Their decoration is sober and purely Moroccan with beautiful curtains and drapes and refined furniture. The bathrooms, often in marble, are spacious and comfortable. The terraces have lovely panoramic views of either the Atlas Mountains or the hotel’s flowered gardens.
A special mention is in order for the 200-square meter imperial tents in the park, with terrace, swimming pool and garden, whose atmosphere is designed to charm anyone looking for exoticism and a total change of scene. Some suites and tents adjoin one another and are therefore ideal for families. Guests have a large choice of activities including a huge swimming pool in the heart of the hotel, a fitness center and several well-known golf courses situated just a few steps from the Palace.
The spa is destined for guests seeking a moment of total relaxation and well-being. Massages and treatments are offered using natural products with exquisite aromas. Taste buds are far from forgotten thanks to the Palais Dar Ambre’s gastronomic restaurant and its starred Chef, Eric Boiron. Inspired by Moroccan traditions as well as the basics of Mediterranean cuisine, the deluxe dishes can be accompanied by the world’s finest wines and enjoyed on the terrace or inside the restaurant in an elegant, Arab setting.
