French Polynesia possesses islands considered by many to be the most beautiful in the world. Bora Bora, in the Society Archipelago, is a perfect example. The landscape is astounding. One has to imagine a mountain, lush with vegetation in the middle of a transparent blue lagoon, and protected by a coral reef. The island is a paradise for lovers of wild flora and fauna. The presence of a volcano, inactive for many years, helped to shape the contours of the island and give it very fertile soil. The plant essences are extremely varied. Although the coconut palm is the symbol of the island, there are also bananas, breadfruit, filao, kapok and flamboyant trees. In addition to the trees, there are magnificent plants such as bougainvillea, hibiscus and jasmine. The atoll contains an underwater treasure. The natural lake in the center enables visitors to safely and easily observe a vast variety of fish of all sizes. In the coral, we find clown fish, mullet, grouper and surgeon fish. It’s also very common to see larger species such as barracudas, manta rays, leopard fish, gray sharks and butterfly fish.
Totally immersed in this magnificent décor, the Intercontinental Bora Bora Resort & Thalasso Spa is dedicated to balance and harmony. As a hotel deeply concerned with the environment, it seeks to provide its guests with exceptional service but with an eye constantly turned towards eco-responsibility.
Located on the splendid motu - islet - of Piti Auu with its immaculate beaches, the hotel’s traditional Polynesian residences known as fares are elegant and offer an uninterrupted view of Mount Otemanu. The architecture respects all the local Polynesian traditions, like the roofs of the bungalow for example in woven pandanus. The majority of the furniture and accessories in the rooms were made by local craftsmen using local materials. The names of the bungalows are enough to make one dream: sapphire, emerald, diamond, Otemanu diamond, etc. They are all on stilts overlooking the lagoon. Guests are free to choose the view they want: the beach, the motu or the sea. In the 80 “farés”, the comforts are enough to satisfy even the most demanding guests including air conditioning, air circulators, bathrooms with separate showers and bathtubs, a DVD player and high speed internet. Nothing has been left to chance. The outdoor terrace and solarium enable guests to take advantage of the constant good weather. If it gets very hot, there is direct access too the lagoon, and after coming out of the water, the outdoor shower is a refreshing luxury.
Nothing has been left to chance in the area of dining either. Breakfast is delivered directly to the faré by boat as is lunch and dinner if the guest so wishes. The choice of restaurants however, includes the Reef, with its spectacular view of Mount Otrmanu and the Sands, directly on the beach. And to prolong the evening, there’s nothing better than having a drink at the Bubbles with its fascinating décor. At the Intercontinental Bora Bora Resort & Thalasso Spa guests can go deep sea diving, surfboard, take a boat ride or feed the sharks and the manta rays. They can also attend numerous exhibits of Polynesian art and learn how to make flowered necklaces or adjust a sarong. However, the most stunning place in the hotel is definitely the Deep Ocean Spa whose water comes from 900 meters below sea level.
The spa has several houses on stilts in which guests receive a wide variety of treatments as they watch underwater sea life through large glass openings.
