Located at the foot of the Fourvière hill, old Lyon is one of the largest existing Medieval and Renaissance quarters. Its architecture is linked to the Florentines who accompanied Catherine de Médicis for her marriage to the son of François Premier. It was during this era that balconies, interior courtyards, colored facades and very southern type arcades were created. Old Lyon also represents the soul of the city with neighborhoods like Saint-George, where the silk weavers originated, Saint-Jean, with its alleyways and its pedestrian streets or Saint-Paul, immortalized by the Bertrand Tavernier film, “The Clockmaker of St. Paul” starring Philippe Noiret. Old Lyon was also the first place in France to undergo a programmed urban renewal operation, the objective of which was to upgrade and restore the old centers of big cities in order to protect the heritage represented by these quarters of the city. The unique aspect of Old Lyon was recently recognized by UNESCO which classified it as a world humanity heritage.
In the heart of this quarter steeped in history, La Cour des Loges proposes 61 rooms and exceptional facilities and services. This five-star hotel combines four 14th century buildings originally used to house Italian merchants attracted by the famous Lyon Fair. Adapting to a grandiose décor and offering contemporary harmony and comfort was no mean feat. The apartments, suits and duplexes symbolize the spirit of one of Europe’s most unique sites. The Petite Mezzanine for example has a very special aura with its raised bathtub facing the transom window and the mezzanine bed under a French style ceiling. The Chambre Classique is a blend of contemporary and Renaissance art with velvet fabrics, wrought iron and sculpted wood. The Chambre Supérieure possesses centuries old woodwork, heavy curtains large mirrors, and both contemporary and Renaissance furniture, all facing the interior courtyards.
After strolling around the pedestrian streets and getting lost in the numerous alleyways, guests can take advantage of the peace and quiet offered by their hotel. The bar with its two cozy retro designed salons, proposes a highly refined menu. The Café Epicerie, a name which recalls the spice trade of the 16th century, offers a variety of delicious, original and light dishes. Les Loges is the place to go for excellent cuisine in an exceptional Italian Renaissance décor. The culinary tradition of Lyon is respected while taking into account new trends and the creative talents of Chef Anthony Bonnet and his team.
The hotel also provides an unequalled haven of well-being in the heart of the capital of Gaul. An indoor swimming pool, a sauna, hammam, a fitness center and treatment cabins are available to guests in a totally relaxing, contemporary atmosphere.
It was in the 5th district of Lyon and more precisely in the Saint-George quarter that the famous Guignol marionettes were born. The traditional décor of its sketches can be seen at the Place de la Trinité.
