The international tourist capital of Saint-Tropez has become a myth contributing to the fame of the French Riviera, the Côte d’Azur. And yet, this village on the Var coast was not always the preferred destination of jet setters in search of recognition. Closely linked to the sea and to maritime commerce, the village was originally a port of call for the Phoceans and then a fortress frequented by pirates. The village has preserved a number of classified historic monuments and nature areas from this period. Its ochre and burnt Sienna bell tower, its numerous chapels, the Mourre chateau, the labyrinth of narrow winding streets and the yellow and orange houses around the port all add to the charm of this authentic fishing village.
In the 1950s,during the « New Wave » period in France, Saint-Tropez became “Saint-Trop” to the multitude of Parisian artists and intellectuals who invaded the streets of the village, and in the 60s, the myth was accentuated with the arrival of Brigitte Bardot.
Today, yachts belonging to multi-millionaires sail into the port and celebrities the world over come here for their vacation. As an epicenter of luxury, Saint-Tropez has become ”the place to be” in the summer.
Just a few minutes’ walk from the legendary Place des Lices, the Bastide de Saint-Tropez is an elegant ochre and pink colored Saint-Tropez house. Nestled in the heart of an Eden like park, this intimate boutique-hotel is designed like a village. Several “mas“ (traditional southern France houses) surround a swimming pool and a small central plaza. Guests enter this haven of peace through a main house with 3 bedrooms, a library, a bar and the hotel’s restaurant. Carefully decorated with details worthy of a manor, the sunny salon leads to the heart of the hotel.
Located in the greenery of a charming exotic garden, four small mas contain 26 rooms and suites, each with a different personality and design. They are all named after flowers or precious stones. Imagined by the owner as veritable guest rooms in his home, they create an extremely warm and charming atmosphere.
Precious fabrics and art objects blend perfectly with Provencal or pure line furnishings. Great attention was paid to the details in order to personalize each room. These veritable cocoons of luxury, with classic or more design type rooms recreate the warm family atmosphere of a former Provencal mas. Each room has a private terrace, and most of them have a private garden and a jacuzzi.
This restful setting, where the only sounds are the chirping of the birds and the lapping of the waves, is ideal for a siesta in the shade of the centuries old olive trees. And for seafaring visitors, the Bastide’s 22 meters long yacht, the San Lorenzo, can be reserved on a daily basis for an unforgettable experience. Its three lovely cabins and its large living space offer guests a unique manner for admiring Saint-Tropez from the sea.
At the end of the day, guests can enjoy a relaxing massage in their room before heading for either the Bistro or the hotel’s gastronomic restaurant, the Olivier. Both propose a cuisine with a Provencal flavor. Depending on the season, specialties include small stuffed dishes, rack of lamb or a fish from the local market, and guests can enjoy them under the last rays of sun in the garden or on the charming and very romantic veranda. With an atmosphere impossible to find anywhere else, the Bastide is the ideal timeless retreat.
A limousine provides a shuttle service to and from the heart of the village.

There’s something for everyone in the hotel world of Saint-Tropez. The diversity of luxury establishments continues to increase.
Saint Tropez, a subtle blend between a picturesque fishing village and a world capital, waited many years before opening luxury hotels on its narrow, winding streets, but the result was well worth waiting for.
