Brazil – Barra Grande
By its immensity, Brazil is almost a continent in itself. The country is synonymous with carnivals, especially those of Rio and Salvador deBahia, with its colonial and ultra modern architecture, its huge mountains plunging into the sea, like the fabulous bay of Rio de Janeiro.
Brazil also invokes the country’s exuberant nature, the Amazonian forest and the Pantanal, the last refuge for the vanishing jaguar species, the Iguacu waterfall, and its magnificent beaches, not only the Copacabana or Ipanema, but all of the beaches extending from the north to the south of the country along the Atlantic Ocean.
On the Dendê Coast, in the state of Bahia, the Marau peninsula is famous for its long stretches of white sand. The beaches facing the oceanare the largest and possess the strongest waves. The white sand and coral reefs form natural swimming pools. On the other side, in Camamu Bay, the water is calmer and shallower.
The village of Barra Grande, at the tip of the peninsula, is well worth visiting. Far from the hyperactivity of the better known tourist centers, this fishing village has preserved its traditions and relaxed way of life. Its old narrow streets and simple charms have a very special kind of charm.
In the Garden of Eden
It’s here in this almost unexplored region, facing thenatural swimming pools formed by the transparent water of the Marau peninsula, that we find the Kiaroa Eco-Luxury Resort. Three kilometers from the village of Barra Grande, in the middle of a 240,000 square meter tropical garden, a veritable ecological sanctuary, this elegant and luxurious resort proposes 14 suites, 14 bungalows, a spa and a restaurant.
Ideally located on a deserted fine sand beach, the ocean is just steps away. In the background, as far as the eye can see, the tropical Atlantic forest, protected by the lush nature of the garden, possesses one of the world’s greatest biodiversities.
In this Eden like ecological setting, the Kiaroa’s thatched roofed bungalows blend in perfectly with the environment. The décor, inspired by all of the planet’s tropical civilizations, was created thanks to skilled craftsmen using raw materials in order to promote local culture.
Between the coconut palms and the crystalline waters of the natural swimming pools formed by the coral barrier, the rooms offer guests all the comforts of a five star resort. The refined and individual décor of each room invokes in turn, Bali, Thailand, Africa and Bahia. In all the rooms, good taste and luxury are present down to the last detail, with for example, Egyptian cotton bedding by the renowned Trussardi company.
Each room possesses a view of the magnificent Bay of Marau which supposedly brings luck to those in love. According to the legend, a Marau Indian chief, broken hearted by the loss of the love of his life, made a wish, here in this bay, that all couples in love who come to this beach would love each other eternally.
Activities at Kiaroa consist of relaxing on the fine sand, taking a dip in the ocean, and, if you prefer fresh water, there is the resort’s incredibly huge 800 square meter swimming pool with a whirlpool massage and a bar immersed in the center! In the equally incomparable spa, there is a heated pool used for Watsu therapy.
The restaurant proposes a delicious local and international cuisine, created by the celebrated Chef Bispo Ferreira dos Santos, and served in a breathtaking setting.
In this Garden of Eden, all earthly pleasures are at the guests’ disposition. Classified as the “best beach hotel in Brazil” by Veja magazine, the Kiaroa is the ideal venue for vacationers on the peninsula.
« Kiaroa », the name of this small luxury hotel, was inspired by a black pearl typical of French Polynesia.
