Amsterdam is a city that tourists flock to all year round for its legendary charm. Internationally acclaimed for its numerous museums enabling visitors to discover, among other treasures, the most beautiful works by Dutch masters in the famous Rijksmuseum, or to better understand local culture and history, by visiting the Amsterdam Historical Museum, Amsterdam is also an ideal city for walking or bicycling along its many canals, or through its magnificent flower market, which has become a major tourist attraction. Like all European capitals however, Amsterdam also has a more contemporary side to it, thanks to former working class neighborhoods which have become very much in vogue. A case in point is the Pijp quarter in the southern part of the city and the Jordaan, which not very long ago were modest quarters for low income Amsterdam inhabitants, workers and immigrants, and which is now very trendy and where people come to rummage through the vintage clothing stores and flea markets. Neighborhoods such as these are important to visit for anyone who wants to learn about all the aspects of the capital and who, at the same time will be happily surprised by the number of bars and restaurants with pleasant atmospheres, ideal for a dinner or a drink among friends.
Located in the center of the city, a few steps from public transport and the cosmopolitan Albert Cuyp market in the very “in” De Pijp quarter, Hotel V welcomes its guest into a contemporary, trendy atmosphere.
The hotel’s 48 rooms, all different, are the perfect place to stay for visitors who want to spend a weekend strolling nonchalantly along the canals, or for those who want to stay for a longer period and learn what Amsterdam is really about. Each room is decorated in a special, simple yet design manner. The wallpaper is in neutral and natural tones on which there are faces of women drawn with sensual lines. The beds are the latest Auping models and occupy, along with a small office space, most of the room, with original lighting and designer chairs for a touch of fantasy. The bathrooms are not huge, but very well-equipped, with an Italian shower.
Dutch breakfasts, famous for being very pleasant and very copious are served on the ground floor in a warm atmosphere, next to the salon where guests can relax on the imposing leather couch facing the central fireplace, where a fire burns all day long. It’s the ideal spot to leaf through a newspaper or a magazine devoted to decoration, available in the library.
The hotel doesn’t have a restaurant, but you can count on the members of the hotel staff to know the trendiest places to go as well as the best restaurants in town, information they will be only too happy to share with you.
“The hotel has accomplished a brilliant balancing act: in spite of a high level of design, it has retained a simple and hospitable atmosphere.” ELLEuk.com
