SãoPaulo
SãoPaulo is the fourth largest city in the world and the economic center of Brazil and Latin America. Founded by Jesuits in 1554, it is now a metropolis of 20 million inhabitants where rich businessmen and politicians travel around by helicopter to avoid the constant traffic jams. The city is a true “melting pot” with a number of different ethnic communities including Portuguese, African, German, English, French, Korean, Japanese and Italian. It’s the third largest Italian city outside of Italy in terms of population and the largest Japanese city outside of Japan.
In addition to being a must stop for businessmen, it is also a city of art and culture and avant-garde in terms of high fashion, design and contemporary art and architecture. A law passed in 2007 forbids all outdoor publicity. The city has 2,578 skyscrapers, highways that converge above the hills and architectural masterpieces like the Copan by Oscar Niemeyer whose statues adorn the parks of Sao Paulo.
Ibirapuera is the city’s equivalent of London’s Hyde Park and is the place to enjoy the fresh air while strolling along its wide lanes, lakes and tropical trees. The park also has a Japanese pavilion, a planetarium, the Museum of Modern Art and a 20,000 seat stadium, making Ibirapuera a micrcocosm of Brazil and a favorite spot for local inhabitants to picnic, ride bicycles, go roller blading or simply to take an afternoon siesta.
Sao Paulo boasts several luxury dream hotels, not only for visitors who come to Brazil on business, but also for anyone seeking a fascinating vacation site.
Ideally located on Oscar Freire Avenue, the city’s most luxurious thoroughfare, the Emiliano is a sophisticated 22 stories boutique-hotel created by Brazilian architect Arthur de Mattos Casas. This design establishment, a member of The Leading Hotels of the World group, is considered to be one of Brazil’s finest hotels.
The tone is set as soon as you enter with impressive works of art by Siron Franco and the incredible hanging orchid garden created by Gilberto Elkis. The hotel’s 38 luxurious and high tech apartments and 19 suites are in a “Zen like style” with a predominance of shiny white marble, light color wood, sumptuous fabrics imported from Italy and design furniture. The beige, cream and chocolate tones serve to create a sober and elegant touch. A small but highly appreciated detail in the ultra design marble bathrooms, in addition to bathtubs with hydro-jet massaging showers is the very hygienic and very comfortable heated Japanese toilets!
Everything in this design palace has been created for total comfort. In addition to a butler available 24-7, the Emiliano, in the image of the rest of the hotel, has a luxurious designer spa equipped with Japanese Ofuro bathtubs, a heliport with a VIP waiting room so that guests can avoid traffic jams, and a gym with a magnificent view of the city. The contemporary and luxurious Emiliano Restaurant is one of the most highly reputed addresses in the city. Facing a superb winter garden, international chef, José Barattino offers guests delicious and original gastronomic dishes inspired by Italian cuisine.
