Visitors very often prefer Barcelona to Madrid because of the former’s very original character, as original as its amazing Sagrada Familia (holy family) Cathedral by Antoni Gaudi. Barcelona is also a capital of art, culture, gastronomy and exciting festive activities. In addition to his legendary cathedral, Gaudi’s numerous creations have given Barcelona a dream-like atmosphere. Shapes, colors and past civilizations all come together in the heart of this unique city.
With its spectacular seafront, its vast beaches and its two ports, Barcelona is first and foremost a Mediterranean city, as witnessed by the colorful and lively streets of the old city. One simply has to cross the heart of the city and its legendary Ramblas to reach the cobblestone streets of the Barri Gotic. Barcelona’s neighborhoods are numerous and extremely varied like the trendy atmosphere of the La Ribera quarter, the charm of the old port or the luxurious Passeig de Gracia. At night, Barcelona assumes another personality. The streets bustle with activity, and the rhythm of the entire city becomes effervescent and rhythmic. Fortunately, for those seeking relaxation, there are a number of possibilities including contemplating the view of the Catalonian capital from the heights of Tibidabo or Monjuïc mountains. Collserola Park, second in size only to New York’s Central Park in terms of urban green spaces, is a veritable nature refuge in the heart of a city that never sleeps.
An atypical palace
The El Palauet (« little palace ») in the luxurious Passeig de Gracia quarter, surrounded by superb Art Nouveau creations, is one of Barcelona’s most atypical hotels. Opened in 2009, this magnificent Art Nouveau building had been abandoned for 25 years. Art history lover, Jordi Cerqueda decided to turn this bourgeois structure into a hotel with character.
Far from ordinary standards of luxury the hotel’s six apartments have been personalized. Although the original setting was preserved and restored, the choice of sober and design furnishings have breathed new life into these spaces.
The six 150 square meter suites contain noble materials like Corian and Egyptian cotton. Designer furniture by Philippe Starck and Paola Lenti complement the multi-colored ceilings and stained glass. In the common areas, the restoration enabled Jordi Cerqueda to preserve the magnificent wood decorations, especially the main staircase, and the superb glass dome, a veritable well of light. Firmly implanted in the present, Cerqueda used the splendor of a bygone era as a sumptuous setting for this unique modern hotel.
A key element of the El Palauet is its spa with a jacuzzi and comfortable armchairs surrounded by a cactus garden with a magnificent glass roof. To make the most of the sunshine, a solarium is also available.
To assist you throughout your stay here, El Palauet provides a private butler to serve each guest. El Palauet doesn’t have a restaurant, but guests can have a chef prepare their meals in their suite.
El Palauet is in perfect sync with Barcelona in its originality and luxury, offering guests an exciting journey into the heart of Art Nouveau.
The Bohemian crystal chandelier consisting of 25,000 pieces and the property of El Palauet, can be dismantled in order to restore each piece one by one and then completely reassembled.
