A city on the banks of infinity
Dubai is a city where the word “impossible” is not part of the dictionary. The number of excessive, mad and extravagant projects rising out of the ground is as endless as the oil and gas which have enabled this emirate city to enjoy an incredible economic boom. Once a simple pearl fishing port, Dubai’s natural resources and a formidable investment acumen has made this city on the Arabian peninsula a phenomenon which attracts more than seven million tourists a year. The impressive Dubai skyline and the landfill on the coast, like the Palm Jumeirah, an artificial archipelago in the form of a palm tree, makes one forget that this coastal city is surrounded by desert. Beyond the city limits, the calm and hostility of this stretch of sand reigns supreme. It’s as if nature, tamed by real estate promoters inside the city, had regained its force and uttered a warning to go “up to here but no further”. Bordered by the ocean on one side and the sand on the other, Dubai is like an ultra-contemporary mirage, a technologically unique wonder. Hotel professionals however, do not like to take orders, even from nature, and have succeeded in profiting from the lure of the desert by creating hotels adapted to this special environment.
The Desert Palm is a haven of peace. Located only thirty kilometres from the city center, this boutique hotel, surrounded by greenery, is adjacent to the infinity of the desert. It’s sometimes best to leave the city in order to take advantage of it. The Desert Palm is a sanctuary of peace and relaxation enabling guests to admire the Dubai skyline without the accompanying traffic and noise. With its four polo fields and its riding school, the Desert Palm is a delight for horse lovers. Guests can also maximize the enjoyment of nature with air balloon flights, desert safaris aboard a four-wheel drive vehicle, in a dune buggy or on the back of a camel. For the sports minded, tennis and squash courts are available as well as a nearby golf course and a magnificent infinity swimming pool. Each of the 38 rooms and suites has its own décor and each villa has a private swimming pool. The pure lines and modern design of the Desert Palm places the accent on sober but demanding luxury. The privacy adds to the intense experience. The guest leaves with a completely different vision of Dubai. Even in the heart of the hotel, trees and bushes are omnipresent as necessary dividing lines designed to acclimatize visitors to the magic of the desert. For those who shy away from the hustle and bustle of the city and are looking for a different image of an already surprising country, the Desert Palm proposes the perfect dose of oriental luxury in an unforgettable background.
This desert of which the Dubai part is just small expanse, is none other than the Rub al Khali also known as the “Empty Quarter”. It’s a thousand kilometres long and about five hundred wide, representing the largest stretch of sand in the world.
