The Dominican Republic, in the middle of the Caribbean Sea between Cuba and Puerto Rico has been a popular tourist attraction for a long time, thanks to its divine tropical climate. The most well known cities are the capital, Santo Domingo and Punta Cana. Discovered by Christopher Columbus in the late 15^th century, the island offers visitors a Caribbean water temperature averaging 25 degrees Celsius, kilometers of fine sandy beaches bordered by coconut palms and incredible panoramic views. Although Punta Cana heads the list of sites because of its dreamlike beaches, in the north of the island, other cities merit a visit as well.

Puerto Plata for example, is a lovely city with charming Victorian style colonial houses and fascinating sites like the museum dedicated to one of the country’s main products, amber, and Fort San Felipe, built in the 16^th century to protect the city from pirates. Today, it still stands tall in the port of Puerto Plata and has a superb panoramic view. It’s also here that the Playa Dorada is located, where visitors can enjoy the sun and sea as well as the festive atmosphere that invades the site at nightfall. It’s no wonder that ever since 1981 when the first hotel was built here, a dozen or so others have opened including the famous Casa Colonial Beach and Spa Resort.

Inside the building, Sarah Garcia, the owner’s daughter, has created one of the most beautiful atmospheres in the Playa Dorada, thanks to a modern design décor in a very traditional site.

Fifty suites with comfort unparalleled in the region await their guests. They are all in soft, neutral tones, with large beds, big windows that allow in the natural light, elegant modern furniture and spacious bathrooms with bathtub and shower.

The beach with its fine white sand, the sea whose water is always warm, a golf course and a fitness center combine to make for an unforgettable vacation. This jewel of a hotel has a swimming pool which overlooks the garden and the sea. The large wooden terrace has several chaises lounges and four Jacuzzis, assuring guests of long relaxing moments under the tropical sun.

The hotel’s Bagua Spa is the ideal place to forget about the stress accumulated in one’s daily life. In the indoor and outdoor cabins for one or for two, guests can take advantage of the numerous treatments and massages available.

In the area of gastronomy, the hotel leaves nothing to be desired either. Breakfast and lunch are served in the Veranda restaurant on a beautiful terrace facing the sea. In the evening it’s strongly advised to visit the lounge bar and then try the refined Asian cuisine served by the Chef of the Lucia, the hotel’s gastronomic restaurant and choose the accompaniment to the meal from a wine list that would make the finest sommeliers jealous.
