The Maldives archipelago has no less than 26 atolls and more than a thousand small and idyllic islands. The Nilandhe atoll, about 150 kilometers from the capital city of Malé, is one of the wildest. There are only two hotel complexes, and so several islands are still uninhabited and completely deserted. As is often the case in this region of the world, the ocean depths are magnificent, to the delight of more or less experienced deep-sea divers. Most sites, especially in this atoll, have been well preserved and offer visitors a magnificent sight for anyone with a simple pair of flippers and a scuba mask, or deep-sea diving gear. On display are deep red coral, underwater rocks typical of the region known as thila, and delightful clown and pajama fish. The hotels offer daily excursions at sea, so that guests can visit the most beautiful spots in the region.
Located in the Nilandhe atoll, the Angsana Resort & Spa Velararu is a hotel full of peace, luxury and charm in a tropical paradise.
Two types of accommodations are available: villas facing the Indian Ocean and surrounded by coconut palms, and villas on stilts, further away, directly in the ocean. They are all rich in color, in every sense of the term, and very well equipped, with large interior and exterior spaces, king size beds, bathrooms with traditional outdoor showers and lovely wooden terraces. Most villas have a swimming pool, with an infinity pool for the villas on stilts, enabling guests to either relax in a hammock or swim in the blue water thanks to direct access to the ocean.
The hotel also offers a variety of activities including surfboarding, kite surfing and of course, snorkeling and deep-sea diving at this absolutely fantastic site. The laboratory on the island is ideal for those who want to increase their knowledge of the underwater depths here and learn more about the local ecosystem.
For moments of pure relaxation, head for the spa and the refined aromas of its treatments using local fruit and flowers including jasmine and lavender. Delicious food awaits guests at any of the hotel’s three restaurants. The Funa overlooks the ocean and proposes shellfish and grilled fish prepared in typically local style. The Kaani specializes in Asian inspired international dishes, and the Azzuro serves gastronomic Italian cuisine. The wine cellar will definitely contain the perfect accompaniment to any meal.

The Maldives for the ecology minded is very possible! Some hoteliers have therefore positioned themselves with the accent on ecology in the choice of materials used, and by investing in programs designed to preserve the flora and fauna.
