Reunited once again after the remarkable success of the Ebony Lodge, architect Bruce Stafford and Cecile and Boyd’s designers, Boyd Ferguson and Paul van den Berg have created a new and innovative lodge inspired by the relationship between man and the earth. “The concept of Boulders Lodge touches the heart of what people appreciate most when they travel in the bush”, Paul van den Berg explains while sitting around a fire at nightfall, his hands and feet buried in the ground, “to feel an osmosis with the earth. Boulders is an elegy to the earth.”
Designed using organic materials, the structure is a tribute to the natural décor around Singita Boulders Lodge, whose name resounds like a hymn to the rocky outcrop bordering the banks of the Sand. Boulders Lodge, a model of contemporary African refinement, offers guests the unique experience of going back to the source by being in direct contact with the wild. Located in the heart of the Sabi Sand reserve, observing this untamed nature brings to mind the words of the Burkina author, Sobonfu Somé: “Listen to the trees and the animals. Listen for all the forces which come to talk to you.”
Resolutely different from the colonial style of its older cousin, the Ebony Lodge, the Boulder’s twelve suites are more spacious, more luxurious and more richly decorated. Neutral tones, thatched roofs, raw silk, mohair and leather all create a gentle and serene atmosphere. To accompany the creation of this new establishment, owner Luke Bailes and his team decided to add a wine cellar the contents of which is capable of competing with the vintage wines served in the region’s finest restaurants. Twelve miles of bottles are conserved here. The Singita Premier Wine District offers guests the possibility of taking home a selection of exclusive wines, many of them coming from wine auctions.
Luke Bailes, owner of the Singita chain proudly claims that “Nowhere else in the world can one appreciate the experience of being face to face with the Big Five (lion, rhinoceros, buffalo, elephant and leopard) while enjoying the refinement and excellence of our installations.”
