La Baule, in France’s Loire-Atlantique department, is a seaside resort in the Bay of Poulignon which experienced tremendous growth at the end of the 19th century thanks to the development of tourism. Its famous pine forest was created in 1840 with the goal of halting the progress of the dunes and is now one of the region’s most well known landscapes, along with the city’s 8 kilometer long beach, considered to be one of the most beautiful in Europe. Tourism, the city’s principal industry, is responsible for the population increase from 16,000 to 150,000 in high season. Synonymous with relaxation, La Baule today is a highly reputed thalasso-therapy spa center. Health and well-being go hand in hand here in a natural setting worthy of its reputation as one of France’s most beautiful coasts.
Ideally situated at the tip of the Bay of La Baule, the entire Château des Tourelles faces the ocean. As a veritable haven of well-being and relaxation, the hotel was designed to encourage guests to forget the cares of daily life, to simply let themselves go and to take advantage of the creative and precisely executed treatments offered. Although thalasso-therapy takes precedence here, the hotel is not simply reserved for spa enthusiasts. Staying here provides guests with a timeless experience in an authentic 19th century chateau delicately and intelligently redecorated by Stéfanie Phélippeau. The reception area for example, transmits the joy of being next to one of Europe’s most magnificent beaches with photographs of children wading in the ocean, a simple pleasure that one rediscovers with delight. The warm and modern décor creates an immediate aura of cocooning and a very subtle form of conviviality. It’s a bit like spending one’s vacation with family. The rooms are spacious and bathed in an extraordinary light. The scenery is dramatic and unforgettable. In the privacy of one’s room, the hotel’s setting becomes a living dream. The spa, the thalasso-therapy, the treatments and the different protocols are invitations for guests to let themselves be carried away by the knowhow and talent that reigns over the chateau in the area of well-being! The Tourelles’ restaurant is run by Chef Caroline Dugal and her husband Robin, the pastry chef. Together, they propose a balanced, healthy and delicious menu. Superb local products are highlighted, and guests can experience the tastes of the region, since each meal reveals another secret of the Loire Valley.
