Harbour Island

Eleuthera, the Greek word for freedom, is a fitting name for what visitors feel when they come to this romantic, dreamlike island with its pink sand beaches facing the turquoise waters of the Atlantic Ocean. Two kilometers off the coast of Eleuthera, lies a tiny stretch of pink quartz land. Off the beaten tourist track, Harbour Island belongs to this small of group of islands known as “exterior islands” whose wild and preserved nature creates an intimate, almost confidential aura compared to the rest of the Bahamas. Famous for its long stretches of sandy pink beaches consisting of white powder mixed with tiny red coral debris, the island possesses one of the ten most beautiful beaches in the world according to the British Travel TV channel. The Pink Sands beach is an idyllic site, like a piece of paradise that fell from the sky, with the turquoise water of the ocean in contrast to the pastel pink nuances of the sand. Such beauty can only serve as a refuge and evasion from the cares of the outside world. Twenty-five discreet and elegant looking cottages dominate the beach. They’re the property of Chris Blackwell, former producer of Bob Marley and founder of Island Records. The property was totally renovated by fashion designer Barbara Hulanicki to offer guests an excusive, luxurious refuge based on the philosophy of the Outpost island group to which she belongs. The celebrated fashion illustrator, founder of the Bibi brand and icon of the 60s and 70s in England was at the origin of this tropical luxury concept. She designed the interiors combining Moroccan and Asian influences including wooden furniture, pink pastel colored walls, filtered lighting and pure lines to create the serene atmosphere that one feels throughout the site. It’s a gentle invitation to evasion and relaxation.

A great many celebrities including Jennifer Aniston, John Mayer and Heidi Klum have stayed in the ultra-luxurious Bimini Cottage with its magnificent ocean view and a Jacuzzi leading directly to the beach.
