Since the 1990s, Dubai, an urban oasis in the heart of the United Arab Emirates desert, has been a paradise for the most extravagant projects. One runs out of superlatives to describe the creations here with each one rivalling the others in its daring, its aesthetic level and its technology. Once a simple fishing port, Dubai has become a model for ultra contemporary urbanization.
The city is enough to make one dizzy with the tallest buildings, the largest malls, the most insane ideas and the most decadent excess. To satisfy a clientele seeking luxury and exclusivity, investors will stop at nothing to attract the seven million visitors who come here annually.
It’s this mindset that gave birth to the Palm Jumeirah, an artificial archipelago in the shape of a palm tree created totally with land reclaimed from the sea, and which contains private residences, boutiques and of course, the biggest and most luxurious hotel complexes in Dubai.
It’s on one of the palms of this incredible peninsula that the One and Only The Palm opened in 2010, an intimate and discreet boutique hotel, in complete contrast to the extravagant constructions around it, and light years away from the excesses of the rest of the Emirate. Consisting of a main manor only three stories high, six large houses and four private villas, the resort is situated in the middle of a flowering garden, around a swimming pool and just a few steps from a white sand beach. The chic and elegant structure is a blend of Moorish and Andalusian architecture with chic Arab interiors.
Resolutely design in nature, the rooms, like the common areas, are the work of two female designers from Dubai who skillfully integrated the artistic codes of the country. Throughout the resort, huge arched windows like moucharabiehs, zellige type tiles, fine fabrics, wood carved furniture and other Arab decorations inspired by local tradition create a sophisticated and totally contemporary enclave.
The One and Only the Palm is also a gastronomic oasis with three restaurants, all run by the three starred chef, Yannick Alleno.
After a day of total relaxation in the shade of the royal palms and few lengths in the refrigerated swimming pool (ideal for beating the heat), it’s time for some tapas and a cocktail at the 101, at the private marina, while admiring the Dubai skyline. For those who prefer a multi-cultural culinary experience, the Zest restaurant proposes the same food prepared in Asian, Oriental or western style depending on the wishes of the guest. The must however, is the gastronomic “STAY, by Yannick Alleno” where French cuisine is highlighted.
An immense Espaspa completes the panoply of ultra luxurious services which makes the One and Only the Palm an intimate and refined oasis in the heart of extravagant Dubai.
The name of Yannick Alleno’s restaurant, the STAY, is an acronym of Simple Table by Alleno Yannick !
