Zella am Zee

Zella am See, is a vacation complex attached to the neighboring commune of Kaprun, at the crossroads of the Glemm valley and the Grossglockner Road. Located on the banks of Lake Zeller See, about two million visitors come here annually to take advantage of the numerous activities available. In winter, the landscape is covered with snow, with kilometers of skiable trails, from the heights of the Schmittenhöhe massif to the domains of Maiskogel near the village of Kaprun. Rising to an altitude of 3,425 meters, the permanent blanket of snow at the summit of the Kitzeinhom glacier makes skiing possible all year round and provides a spectacular view of the eastern Alps chain. In summer, the Zell am See-Kaprun domain reveals its vast stretches of prairie and green pastures along the mirror like Zeller See lake. Perched on the nearby heights, there’s a museum tracing the history of the conquest of the glaciers and the Glockner-Kaprun hydroelectric dam in order to discover the Pinzgau region from a less recreational, more cultural angle.

Design centered around the individual

At the foot of the Kaprun valley, in the shadow of the Kitzseinorn glacier, we find the Mavida Balance Hotel & Spa, the first design hotel in Salzburgerland. Its complete range of treatments is based on the theory of balanced energies. Design here plays a secondary role. Centered around the individual, the pure minimalist décor acts as a catalyst. Built on the foundations of the former Hotel Katharina, the architectural team of Evi Märklstetter and Niki Szilagyi created a space designed for contemplation. Curved fluid lines, warm and gentle colors including beige, pearl gray and brown, and organic materials contribute to an atmosphere of serenity directly inspired by the surrounding alpine beauty. Devoid of all flourishes, the artistic concept developed by the team can be summed up in the following phrase: “reduced aesthetics in order to return to the essential.” The Balance Center & Spa’s 1,400 square meters offers a remarkable variety of treatments including a sauna, a tepidarium (lukewarm baths), luminotherapy, Pilates method, exercises for re-balancing the body’s muscles and maintaining the spinal column, yoga and qu gong. The 5,000 square meter property gives visitors the opportunity to take magnificent walks around Lake Zeller See.

In 2009, The Movida Balance Hotel & Spa received the prestigious Gala Spa Award for having developed the innovative concept known as Mental Balance Treatment.
