The two million annual visitors to Namibia, in southwestern Africa, come here in search of the country’s fantastic landscapes. Although two thirds of the country is covered by the Kalahari and Namib deserts, certain populations have succeeded in mastering this hostile environment and settling here, and their fascinating way of life can be witnessed by interested tourists. The Namib, which runs along the west coast of the country, is considered to be one the oldest deserts in the world. In the heart of its 80,000 square kilometers, visitors can discover the stunning natural décor of plains and mountains, as well as the famous orange-red dunes of Sossusvlei. To learn the secrets of this fantastic site, you have to go through several dozen kilometers of the Namib Nature Park, which contains numerous reptiles and mammals who have also managed to acclimatize themselves to this very special terrain, including oryxes, spotted hyenas and foxes. Once you arrive at your destination, the view is breathtaking. Hundreds of ocher colored dunes, among the highest in the world, and which can attain heights of 300 meters, rise majestically before you, creating a totally extraordinary panorama that changes every day depending on the light, and the wind which slightly modifies their shape with each gust.
Discovering Namibia and its celebrated Namib desert, while staying at the Little Kulala Camp, is undoubtedly one of the most magnificent journeys a tourist can possibly take. It’s here, in a private reserve with thousands of hectares of breathtaking landscapes, and located adjacent to the famous Namib Naukluft Park, that this luxurious lodge welcomes its guests to its eleven wood villas with thatched roofs, all in perfect harmony with the natural décor.
The villas offer upscale comfort, spacious interiors decorated in sober, light tones, combined with modern equipment. Large bay windows, allowing the natural light to enter, enable guests to take advantage of the fantastic view of the Sossuvlei dunes.
The outdoor terrace of each villa is equipped with a living room area and a swimming pool. A massage service is available for guests who so desire. A small plus that adds to the charm of the lodge is a bed installed on the roof of the bathroom, in the event that guests want to spend one or several nights under the stars.
The main lodge contains the reception area, a large salon with a fireplace, an outdoor and indoor dining room, with a fireplace as well, where guests can take their meals in a peaceful, relaxed atmosphere and try one of the fine wines from the hotel’s wine cellar. Of course, discovering the fascinating natural surroundings is an integral part of the vacation, thanks to a variety of excursions proposed by the lodge to the heart of the reserve and the nature park, where guests can encounter the wild ostriches and springboks that have made the area their home. Excursions are most often made in a four-wheel drive vehicle, in the company of a guide, although for the more adventurous, a hot air balloon can fly guests over this superb desert and the magnificent red dunes for a moment of unforgettable beauty.
