More than just another ski resort, Courchevel is the incarnation of the perfect blend of snow and luxury. As an international symbol of a top of the scale resort for the rich and famous, Courchevel’s success continues to increase with, as proof, the regular addition of new five star hotels. Courchevel is a skiing experience at 5 different altitudes each with its own identity: Saint-Bon at 1100 meters, Couchevel Le Praz at 1300, Courchevel at 1550, Courchevel 1650 and of course, Courchevel 1850, the latter having become a popular vacation spot for Russian oligarchs in the late 1990s. Although the three other villages that make up the resort remain family oriented, the image of Courchevel as a luxury site is now anchored in people’s minds. Courchevel’s 119 ski slopes covering 493 kilometers make it the world’s largest skiable area. In addition, it has 174 ski lifts for its 32,000 tourists in high season and 800 monitors.
The Tourniers, owners of the five star Le Lana, are members of one of the most important and influential families in this mountain village, now famous throughout the world. Joseph Claret-Tournier, a native of the Savoie region, is one the Courchevel’s great names and a veritable pioneer. It was he who opened the legendary bar known as L’Equipe in 1948. Just a decade later, in 1958, the 20 room four star Lana opened, the first luxury hotel in the resort. After a total renovation in 2008-2009, the Lana now proposes 55 rooms, 28 suites and 2 apartments. This family enterprise and a more than 50 year old institution in no way shows its age, as it is modern and elegant without sacrificing its traditional charm. Wood and leather are dominant, and warm reassuring colors add a cozy touch to the hotel. Like all luxury establishments, the soul of the Lana lies in its details and its ideas which seem to pass almost unnoticed but which have a subconscious impact on the guest. The imposing dark wood façade, the two lions guarding the entrance, the elegant wood paneling, the statues in the reception area and the Louis XIII cupboard are all enchanting moments of beauty with a carefully reflected, subtle and unlimited aesthetic sense designed to welcome guests in the best possible manner. The Lana is an artistic achievement. This luxury and prestige is also present in the rooms and suites with a view of the Bellecôte slopes. Wood, stone and elegant fabrics create a symphony of powerful sensations that winter holiday enthusiasts are bound to appreciate. The Lana has a spa by Clarins with 6 treatment rooms and a 15 meter indoor swimming pool. The Byzantine inspired panoramic bar is the ideal spot to relax after a day on the legendary Courchevel slopes before heading for one of the hotel’s two restaurants: La Table du Lana and the Saint-Nicolas where authentic Savoyard cuisine is served in a traditional mountain décor.
The historic and legendary Lana has welcomed numerous celebrities and members of the jet set. Instead of resting on its laurels however, the Tournier Brothers have taken advantage of the hotel’s 50th birthday to rejuvenate it and reaffirm its first place standing in Courchevel’s luxury hotel category.
