Not very long ago, anyone wishing to party in a magical setting, in the midst of breathtaking natural scenery and enjoy a deliciously pleasant climate, would head for the trendy city of Cancun. Recently however, another city, about sixty kilometers away, has become an equally popular destination for tourists the world over: the enchanting Playa del Carmen. Located on the fantastic Mayan Riviera, Playa del Carmen, formerly known as Xaman Ha was, just a decade ago, a small, peaceful and traditional town with a port, with a great many fishermen and architecture typical of the region. Today, all that has changed, and its beaches of white sand along the Caribbean are among the most popular in the world. It’s also a very important site for deep-sea divers because of its magnificent coral reefs. A design hotel in the heart of the Mayan Riviera

Located in the heart of this up and coming city, The Hotel Lounge Deseo (Desire) has become, as its name indicates, the object of desire of a great many tourists. Owned by the well known Mexican hotel professionals, Carlos Couturier and Moises Micha, the Deseo receives its guests in a radically modern, happy and peaceful setting.

The twelve rooms and three suites all have a simple, pure and design décor. They’re spacious, with white walls, king sized beds and occasional pieces of furniture and lamps delicately arranged so that each room is a pleasant living space during the day, as well as a cool and peaceful bedroom at night.

The hotel’s central point is its patio equipped with a large terrace, and a superb swimming pool created by the Mexican designer, Silvia Gruner. The large cushions and sunbathing mattresses spread around the pool and which look like four-poster beds, invite guests to a moment of total relaxation. The adjacent wooden bar offers cocktails, cold drinks and light meals. For those who prefer swimming in the sea, there’s a direct and private access to the beach and the magnificent Caribbean Sea.

In the evening, the hotel’s terrace is transformed into a lounge and becomes an ideal place to sip a glass of champagne while enjoying the sunset and the music carefully chosen every evening by the disc jockey. The idyllic location of the hotel enables guests to take advantage of the festive atmosphere of Playa del Carmen and its numerous restaurants.
