There are almost as many Spains as the country has regions. Catalonia is the cultural center of the country. Andalousia is the land of flamenco and bullfighting. The coasts - especially the Costa del Sol - are an internationally popular tourist destination, and the South is a land rich in tradition. In addition and in parallel with these diverse identities, is the number of languages spoken in Spain including Castilian, Catalonian and Basque. However, far from being a melting pot, Spain is a homogeneous, vibrant and dynamic country. Barcelona is the second most populated city in the country with five million inhabitants. Located between the sea and the mountains, it is also an important national and European finance center. The wave of tourists for the Olympic Games of 1992 made Barcelona one of the most popular and trendy European cities. Barcelona’s famous nightlife is already a legend. Thanks to all this and an exceptional cultural heritage, the city receives an increasing number of tourists every year. It’s not surprising therefore that during the past decade, numerous hotels have seen the light of day. Some however, seem to melt into the general atmosphere while others stand out because of their luxury.
Opened in 2008 on the mythical Rambla Catalunya, one of the city’s most prestigious avenues, we find the luxury boutique Hotel Murmuri. Located in the heart of the lively Eixample quarter, near the boutiques and museums, the hotel has all it takes to satisfy its guests with its elegance and refinement. The building dates back to year 1892 and was built by the renowned Catalan architect, Enrique Sagnier. The Murmuri took over the site, adding excellent taste and style. The luxury offered here is of minimalist design, discreet and never ostentatious. Neutral colors such as beige and taupe are dominant giving the entire hotel a highly appreciable visual coherence. These chromatic tones and taste for elegant luxury are the stock and trade of internationally renowned designer, Kelly Hoppen. Her use of neutral colors is always counterbalanced by rich textures including suede, silk and linen, making the Murmuri both sensual and luxurious. The charm of this well thought out site and the aesthetic choices are an assurance of a certain longevity in the heart of a city in which everyone is in search of what is considered to be trendy. Even the name, Murmuri implies a discreet, murmured invitation, like the advice of a friend recommending an “in” address to a circle of connoisseurs and lovers of all things beautiful.
An oasis of a gentle sense of well being, the Murmuri is quickly becoming a reference for visitors seeking a cozy and luxurious refuge to temper the frenzy of the Catalonian capital.
