Located in the Valais region of Switzerland, on a magnificent sunny 1500 meter high plateau, the Verbier ski resort is famous for its 400 kilometers of skiable property. More discreet than its neighbor, Gstaad, and certainly less glamorous, Verbier is a small peaceful village, a perfect reflection of Swiss serenity. A certain number of celebrities have added to the resort’s renown including Diana Ross and James Blunt, but Verbier nevertheless remains above all, a winter sports destination. Well known for its free ride spot, Verbier is also the setting for several mountain bike competitions, hiking trails and many other intensive mountain sports. The combination of a traditional setting, a strong and very athletic spirit and architecture which respects the alpine surroundings, since all of the constructions are in the chalet style and blend in perfectly with the natural environment, has made Verbier a trendy resort while still remaining family oriented and convivial.

The W hotel chain is best known for its very chic, contemporary city hotels. In December, 2013 however, at Verbier, the chain opened its first mountain hotel. Perfectly situated at the foot of the slopes, its exterior is chalet like and therefore blends in perfectly with the atmosphere of village. Created by the Concrete Architectural design firm, the W associates the tradition of the Swiss Alps with the urban aestheticism of New York. As soon as you enter, you are struck by the gray tones which invoke mountain rocks. The cozy, contemporary and very trendy W transports its guests beyond the summits to the chic ambiance of a New York art gallery. The “living room” has warmer colors. It’s a very important room where the hotel proudly exhibits the W’s identity. Works of art by the famous tape artist, Buff Diss, recalling ski tracks in the snow, and rounded irregular lines exemplify the magic, and especially the off the wall, surprising nature of the W, a comfortable and laid back five star hotel with a generous dose of humor! A party spirit is present in each of the 123 rooms and suites, the largest and most prestigious being the E-Wow suite, the W’s pride and joy with ceilings in recycled wood, leather couches, artificial fur and dark tones; a festival of materials and a décor that is a visual delight. The E-Wow suite is nothing short of sensational. Everything has been designed to surprise guests, while at the same time enabling them to relax in total harmony with the environment. Among the numerous remarkable details is the work of Dutch photographer, Marcel Van Der Vlught whose magnificent photos are reinterpretations of the famous Swiss tales that inspired him including Heidi, Saint Bernard and the Snow Queen. Another unique feature of the W is the Mountain Concierge whose role is to enhance the guest’s vacation by proposing a guide or monitor for skiing, paragliding and numerous other activities. He can even organize a day of heli-skiing. Intense athletic activity requires moments of rest and recuperation, and the W’s superb 800 square meter spa fills the bill with its indoor-outdoor swimming pool, hammam, sauna and fitness activities. Nine treatment rooms, two of which are designed for couples, are ideal for the numerous mountain type treatments offered. The curves and rounded shapes of the swimming pool are in perfect sync with the hotel’s theme. Whether indoors or outdoors, the pleasure remains intense and unforgettable.
