Located on an island in the southernmost part of the Malaysian peninsula, Singapore measures 647.8 square kilometers and consists of 64 islands. In the 1980s, it was named one of the Four Asian Dragons, the other three being South Korea, Hong Kong and Taiwan. Their exceptional, and for some, frenetic growth, have made them examples in the area of economic development.
Since gaining independence in 1965, Singapore has become a model society which to this day, is one of the most highly reputed in Asia. This success is based on four basic principles: economic growth, security, cleanliness and materialism.
Singapore is an effervescent city-state whose favorite pastimes, for local inhabitants and tourists alike, are eating and shopping, with a disdain for wasting even one minute, since time is precious here.
The city’s hyperactivity includes daring architectural projects and a constantly evolving business quarter.
Orchard Road, emblematic of the city, is the main venue for shoppers and seekers of luxury. This 2.2 kilometer long street is home to several hundred international brand names as well as hotels and numerous shopping malls.
The façade of the St. Regis, atower like so many others here, gives no indication of the true style of the hotel. Only the few customized Bentleys parked in front indicate the luxury and splendor hidden inside. Elegance, opulence and a touch of Art déco are the ingredients of this modern palace.
The St. Regis is famous for its hospitality and especially its butler service which assures each guest of a dream vacation. The other particularity of this magical hotel is its excellent art collection. The wife of the St. Regis’ owner spent 7 years purchasing paintings and sculptures worth a total of 5 million dollars. They include works by Picasso, Botero, Léger, Chagall and Miro.
The hotel’s 299 and suites are all magnificent, with French marble bathrooms, crystal chandeliers and luxurious fabrics, designed to please even the most demanding guests, the true veterans of international luxury.
The suites for example are grouped under the name of “Society Suites”. Imagined and created by the WATG architectural firm. They all possess a spectacular splendor and range in size from 135 square meters to 330 for the Presidential Suite. Although generous in terms of space, they can even be enlarged by the addition of a Deluxe bedroom.
The rest of the hotel has the same ambition: absolute upscale luxury, with a 26 meter long outdoor swimming pool, 3 restaurants (French, Italian and Chinese), a tennis court and of course, a spa offering a wide range of treatments.
