The string of islands that make up the Santorini archipelago form a crescent created by the movements of the earth. The calm and discreet principal island of Santorini attracts thousands of visitors annually thanks to the enchanting beauty of its volcanic landscapes. The deep blue of the sea and the gleaming white of the houses, as if suspended on the edge of the ancient crater, and its archaeological treasures make the island a living representation of the Cyclades. On the northern side of Santorini, the small village of Oia, carved out of the rock, possesses an unparalleled view of the archipelago’s natural beauty. Just before dark, the streets of the village emit sensations of romance and melancholy. The streets of Thira however, the island’s main city, become busy and illuminated by the signs of the restaurants and tavernas ready to welcome their evening visitors. Although there are no long stretches of white sandy beaches like those of its cousin, Mykonos, it is largely compensated for, by Santorini’s extraordinary and unique beauty.
Cream colored facades, drowned in a “jewel box” of immaculate white, is a very daring concept. On the northern tip of the island, the Mystique consists of rooms built into the rock, above the indigo waters of the Aegean Sea. Born out of the imagination of Kalia Konstandinou, the hotel’s concept is that of rustic-chic, inspired by the architecture of the region’s houses. Furniture made out of driftwood, night tables built with stones, limestone floors and linen drapes decorate the interiors, creating a minimalist and elegant style, conceived by the French creator of the Bleu Nature brand, Frank Lefebvre, using for the most part, organic and natural materials.
The restaurant is one of the hotel’s high points with the accent on local dishes. The menu consists of Mediterranean products to be enjoyed with a glass of wine in hand, while watching the magnificent sunset over the waters of the crater.
“I give a second life to the wood I recover, but I don’t feel as if I’m an ecologist, just an eco-citizen. I create objects which are part of their era. We become attached to erosion and fissures which become esthetic qualities.” Frank Lefebvre, designer
