To say that Spain has a rich cultural heritage is an understatement. Located in the extremity of the European continent, facing North Africa, Spain has experienced Moslem, Visigoth and Christian invasions, all of which have left their influences and remains of other areas, which today are recognized as unparalleled artistic and architectural masterpieces. A city like Seville for example, has enormous treasures of the past, as does Cordoba and its breathtaking city center. Both cities are in Andalusia, a region with a brilliant Moslem past that gleams even brighter today. Tourists from all over the world come in droves to see these ancient citadels, mosques, fortifications, alcazars and cathedrals. The fortified palace known as the Alhambra, is one of the most beautiful architectural sites in Europe, and is the major tourist attraction of the city of Granada, as well as its undeniable symbol. However, Granada is rich in other historical attractions. Divided into four old cities with Jewish, Gypsy, Moslem and Christian origins, Granada is literally a city at the crossroads of cultures where different traditions meet and blend in together. And an absolutely unique site deserves a hotel equal the splendor of the city.
The Hospes Palacio de los Patos, in the heart of Granada’s commercial center, and just a few steps from the cathedral, is an absolutely magnificent luxury hotel and a haven of peace and relaxation. The Palacio, built between 1885 and 1890 to celebrate the marriage of the children of the city’s two most influential families, was renovated to brilliantly demonstrate the links between the past and the present. Although the central part of the building has been kept intact, totally contemporary additions were built which harmonize perfectly with the historical parts. This combination of classical architecture and more industrial elements runs throughout the hotel creating a chic and elegant atmosphere. The splendor of the past can still be felt in elements such as the roof, the floors and the grand staircase which recalls the sumptuous feasts that were held here for the haute bourgeoisie that built a monument to its glory. To respect these volumes and the desired spirit of grandeur behind this project, a boutique hotel with 42 rooms was created using a maximum of space without distorting the historical nature of the site, and yet offering modern rooms with every possible comfort that one would expect in a hotel of this category. The Palacio is a tremendous achievement, a feast for the senses and a stopover where perfection reigns supreme in the heart of a rich, centuries old historic center.
Another advantage of this superb site is the magnificent Arab garden surrounding the hotel, arranged according to ancestral tradition, providing beauty and greenery in the heart of the city.
