During the last century, the region known as Turtle Bay was a popular resort for well to do inhabitants of Port-Louis, the capital of Mauritius. For a long time, it was preserved from the negative aspects of mass tourism since hotel groups and other tourist organizations showed little interest in the site.
At first glance, the area doesn’t seem to be a Mecca for tourists in search of the fine sand beaches for which Mauritius is renowned. The landscape is rocky and beaches “almost” non-existent and the only interest for tourists would be to visit the remains of infrastructures built under the command of the French governor Mahé de La Bourdonnais. But this is where the magic of Mauritius comes into play.
The hidden charms of Turtle Bay todayhave an enchanting effect on those who come here. Far from the hyperactivity, the crowds and the lack of privacy of the country’s large centers on the northern coast of Mauritius, the silence and serenity of the bay are as unspoiled as the wild nature surrounding it.
Located in Balaclava on the northeast coast of Mauritius, the Angsana Balaclava is only a 15 minute drive from the road leading to the capital, Port Louis. With a backdrop of magnificent mountains on the horizon, we find the hotel’s beach, one of the most beautiful on the island; a veritable heaven on earth.
Opened in 2011, the Angsana distinguished itself immediately by its simple luxury and its boutique spirit, unique in Mauritius. The hotel’s 52 suites reflect this sense of comfort thanks to spacious rooms, rattan walls and an overall sober yet exotic style. The inspiration for the architecture is Mauritian, African and Asian, and one immediately feels at home.
Guests are thrilled to feel the atmosphere as soon as they arrive thanks to the stunning welcome hall with its high ceiling. The natural materials are in perfect harmony with more unusual materials such as volcanic rock, a blend that visitors continue to discover throughout this haven of peace.
What could possibly be more luxurious than the Angsana’s Imperial Suite? Its 770 square meters are a perfect reflection of the hotel’s philosophy. It consists of four bedrooms, a kitchen, a living room and a bedroom with a superb view of the Indian Ocean. The spacious veranda faces the ten by four meter private swimming pool, and the suite also possesses its own spa with a shower, hammam and jacuzzi.
The hotel proposes two restaurants, the Oriza which serves Mauritian specialties and the Passion, specializing in grilled dishes and which in addition, offers guests the possibility of having lunch or dinner alongside the water!
The interior swimming pool called Laguna possesses filtered ocean water, a unique installation on the island, an additional exclusive charm of the Angsana.
The Angsana is a luxurious dream destination with a great many elements that are bound to attract a wide variety of curious visitors including Its proximity to Turtle Bay, a nature reserve for marine turtles, and evening concerts by Mauritian artists for discovering the sounds of the island! Lovers of nature and music lovers will inevitably come together here, each comfortably ensconced in his or her Angsana deck chair!
